About
About State Surgery Costs
State Surgery Costs is an independent consumer health publication. Our mission is to bring transparency to U.S. healthcare pricing by helping patients understand what common surgeries, scans, and treatments actually cost — with and without insurance — in every state.
Why we exist
Healthcare in the United States is famously opaque. The same MRI can cost $400 in one state and $4,000 in another. We aggregate publicly available pricing data, hospital chargemaster disclosures, federal Medicare data, and insurer reimbursement filings to give patients an honest, plain-English starting point.
What we are not
- We are not a hospital, clinic, or medical provider.
- We do not book appointments or refer patients to providers.
- We do not sell insurance or receive commissions on procedures.
- We do not provide medical, legal, or financial advice.
How we make money
State Surgery Costs is supported primarily by display advertising (including Google AdSense) and contextual affiliate links to insurance comparison tools. Advertising never influences our editorial content. See our editorial policy for details.
Our team
Our content is written by health journalists and reviewed by licensed clinicians and medical billing specialists before publication. Every article lists its author, medical reviewer, sources, and the date it was last updated.
